Candle Care
How to get the best from your candle

Wax

Our candles are made from soy wax and the first time you burn one of our candles you must let the candle burn until the wax has melted edge to edge, approx 2 hours. If you do not allow this then the candle will start tunnelling. This is because soy wax has a memory. Meaning when you light a soy candle for the first time, then extinguish it, the next time you burn it the candle will melt across as far as it did the first time.

Cotton Wicks

We work with 2 different wick types here at The Coorie Company.

The first is a standard cotton wick and we use these in our tins. To get the most out of your candle the wick should be kept trimmed to 5mm at all times. The wick should also be trimmed after every 2 hours of burning. If you ever feel that your wick doesn't seem to be burning well then extinguish your candle and trim the wick before relighting.

Wooden Wicks

The second wick we use is a wooden wick and these are used in our amber Jar candles. These are slightly different from a traditional cotton wick. They burn for longer, they are cleaner and they have a cosy ambiance. The care is much the same as the cotton wicks. Always trim your wick before each use to remove any charred wood, if you don't the wick may not stay lit long enough to fuel the flame and in turn will extinguish itself. Also make sure that you allow the wax to melt edge to edge on its first burn, approx 2 hours, to avoid tunnelling.

Burning

We recommend that due to the nature of soy wax that you should light your candle for no longer than 2 1/2 hours at a time. Keeping soy candles lit for longer can burn off all the fragrance too quickly. A candle snuffer is the best way to extinguish your candle and keep it in perfect condition. Once extinguished the scent will linger in the air. Place the lid back on to keep the scent locked in.

Candle Position

With a scented candle it is best to position it on a lower surface, but safely out of reach of children or pets, to get the best scent throw to fill the room. As the heat rises so will the scent, therefore the lower the candle the further the scent throw.

Candle

Here at The Coorie Company we handmake all our candles. Sometimes the top of your candle may appear slightly uneven. This is a sign of natural soy wax and will not affect the quality of your candle.
